CAPTAIN-SAV-A-HEATHEN

What happens when a people are taught to trust the traditions of men above the Word of God?
Long before the Atlantic slave trade, the Scriptures recorded a pattern. After the rise of the fourth kingdom described in Daniel 7, 1 Maccabees 1:11–15 describes Israelites who chose to forsake the Holy Covenant, align themselves with the surrounding nations, and embrace customs contrary to the Law given to Israel. The text presents this as a turning point — describing leaders who encouraged others to make agreements with the surrounding peoples and abandon their covenant identity.
Captain-Sav-A-Heathen explores the recurring pattern of compromise — including during American slavery — where certain influential voices promoted doctrines that discouraged resistance and encouraged submission, reinforcing systems of control.
The book examines the historical role of the house slave, the development of plantation Christianity, and the relationship between religious instruction, political power, and cultural identity.
Inside This Book You Will Explore
- The significance of 1 Maccabees 1:11–15 and the decision to forsake the Holy Covenant
- The recurring pattern of compromise throughout Israelite history
- The relationship between plantation religion and institutional Christianity
- Why systems of power depend on controlling both information and interpretation
- How inherited doctrines can influence generations
- Why questioning long-held assumptions may be essential to discovering truth
A Question Every Reader Must Answer
“What happens when the slave finally reads the Bible without the master standing beside him?”
